Dr. Gonzalez dismantles the ketogenic diet for cancer

72 Comments 03 October 2013

In early 2012 I discovered the ketogenic diet for cancer. I've understood for many years that different diets work for different people and I was intrigued by it as a possible dietary strategy to heal cancer, so naturally I shared information about it on this site, thinking it might be a viable option for some. At that time there were no other sites as large as mine talking about it. In 2013, awareness of the keto diet exploded, mostly do to Dr. Mercola's articles, interviews and endorsement of it. Since then, many others have jumped on the bandwagon. Despite the zealous promoters of it, many of whom I have great respect for, my opinion of the ketogenic diet for cancer has changed. It started with several long phone conversations and email exchanges I had with my friend Dr. Patrick Vickers of Northern Baja Gerson Center. He was adamant that the ketogenic diet did not work in healing cancer long term. This coincided with the recurrence of cancer in someone I knew that was promoting the ketogenic diet as effective. It appeared to have some positive short term results for some people (shrinking tumors), but I was beginning to have some doubts about it working long term. Then came the coup de grace from Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez, an article series on Natural Health 365, which I have reposted here.

Super Healthy Food We Buy At Costo

71 Comments 04 January 2013

So I'm often asked "Where do you buy your food?" Well when I first started this journey in January 2004, organic food was pretty scarce in Memphis, TN. Now (thank the Lord on high) it is much easier to find. We shop at various places like Whole Foods aka "Whole Paycheck", Kroger, Fresh Market, and local Farmer's Markets. And Micah does a pretty good job of keeping up with which store carries what, and who has better prices etc. But one of our favorite places is Costco. A couple years ago we discovered that they have a really impressive selection of organic food and health food. So I thought it would be fun and helpful to take pictures of the super healthy food we buy at Costco on a regular basis.

My name is Lindsey, and I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I was diagnosed with Colon Cancer - Sept 2012. On the 12th August 2011 my life changed forever. I had been to the doctor three times before about experiencing pain in my lower abdomen. He did the usual urine and blood test and announced it was a bladder infection. Weeks of antibiotics later, I was sicker than ever. That morning I woke with the most excruciating pain I had ever experienced, I could barely walk. Deep inside me, I knew it was something terrible.

Green Smoothies, Budwig, and Essiac: Cortney’s Lymphoma Survival Story

34 Comments 03 February 2011

In early January I received a message through the blog from a young woman diagnosed with cancer at 26, just like me. She shared a little bit about her survival story and alternative therapy strategy. I thought it was so great that I asked her if she would do an interview. And she said yes! Instead of chemotherapy she decided to make hardcore diet and lifestyle changes along with alternative therapies, and had a huge surprise along the way. I really enjoyed this interview and I know you will too. Very powerful stuff.

I Juiced to Beat Cancer and Turned Orange!

185 Comments 09 August 2010

The Centers for Disease Control and the National Cancer Institute recommend you eat 5 servings of fruits and veggies per day. But let's face it,  that's tough to do! The Centers for Disease Control and the National Cancer Institute recommend you eat at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies per day, but 10 servings per day is optimal. Let's face it, that's tough to do! Most folks I know don't even average 1 serving per day. Our bodies are starving for nutrients and juicing is the best way to extract massive amounts of nutrients from vegetables; without having to sit down and eat several pounds of vegetables per day. Knowing what to juice and what not to juice is critical.
