Cancer studies often downplay chemo side effects:
Researchers spin their results

The results of breast cancer drug trials are routinely ‘spun’ to make the treatments appear more beneficial than they actually are, doctors claim today.

In two-thirds of the studies scrutinized, toxicity and serious side effects from chemotherapy, radiation or surgery were not even listed in many paper’s abstract summaries, which is usually the only part that practicing doctors read.

Study: Are cancer patients’ hopes for chemo too high?

(Reuters) At least two thirds of people with advanced cancer believed the chemotherapy they were receiving might cure them, even though the treatment was only being given to buy some time or make them comfortable, according to a U.S. survey.

Researchers reported in the New England Journal of Medicine that 69 percent of patients who were terminally ill with lung cancer, and 81 percent with fatal colorectal cancer, did not understand that their chemotherapy was not at all likely to eliminate their tumors.

“Their expectations are way out of line with reality,” said lead researcher Deborah Schrag of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institution in Boston, speaking to Reuters Health…

Cut Poison Burn

If you have a child diagnosed with cancer the government can force you to subject your child to chemotherapy and radiation treatments. And if you don’t comply, Child Protective Services can take your child away.

Hard to believe, but it’s true.

Cut Poison Burn is a very powerful documentary about the Cancer Industry and the Navarro family’s fight with the government to get the cancer treatment of their choice for their little boy.
I watched an advance screening of this film and met the producer at the Cancer Control Convention in LA, Labor Day weekend 2011. Every American should watch this film.

Burzynski The Movie: Cancer Is Serious Business

In 2004 I was resarching alternative cancer therapies and heard about Dr. Stanley Burzynski in Houston, Texas.

I was told that he had developed a non-toxic “alternative” therapy that was more effective than chemo or radiation on even the most aggressive cancers.  So yeah, he was on my short list of doctors to see if I my natural approach didn’t work.

“Burzynski The Movie: Cancer Is Serious Business” documents the amazing cancer treatment discovered by Dr. Burzynski called Antineoplastons and how the FDA and the National Cancer Institute tried to shut down his clinic, prove his therapy didn’t work, and put him in jail while the U.S. Government tried to steal his patent. Really!

Micah and I just watched this and it is so freaking awesome I almost exploded.

Freakonomics vs. Cancer Treatment.
And the winner is…

Economist Steven Levitt and writer Stephen Dubner are two awesome dudes who teamed up to write two of my favorite books in the last few years. They use research and statistical analysis to solve some of the most complex riddles of modern life. Needless to say, I was thrilled to discover that they spent some time studying the cancer treatment industry. The question they address in SuperFreakonomics is this: “Why is chemotherapy prescribed so often if it’s so ineffective?”

In January of 2004, one month after my surgery, my wife Micah and I went to the cancer clinic for the first time.

It didn’t go so well.

I had already decided against chemotherapy after researching successful alternative therapies.
To my dismay, my decision was not well received by my wife, family and friends. After many heartfelt and well-meaning “interventions”, I reluctantly agreed to go meet with an oncologist to hear what he had to say.
