Centenarian cancer survivor, Mike Fremont, on healing and longevity

“These, believe it or not, are the best years of my life.” -Mike Fremont, age 102

Mike Fremont, 102 years old at the time of this interview, was diagnosed with metastatic colorectal cancer at 69 and given three months to live. He opted out of surgery and adopted a whole food plant-based, macrobiotic diet. Two years later, Mike had surgery, and no metastasis was found. Mike attributes his longevity and health to his plant-based diet and stress-free lifestyle.

Mike holds multiple world records in running and canoe racing. He holds the record for the fastest marathon runner for an 88-year-old, 90-year-old, and 91-year-old.

At 96, Mike set the American one-mile record in the 95-99 age group, and at 99, he was the oldest person to ever race in the Canoe National Championships. Mike is still thriving and staying active today at age 102!

Mike Freemont is an incredibly inspirational human on so many levels… Enjoy!

Amazing story. But did he suffer severe cachexia weight loss and loss of appetite and aversion to most foods as can happen to certain people with certain cancers ?

I am so proud of you, Chris, for not succumbing to the crticism that’s been aimed at Macrobiotics. Michio and Aveline Kushi helped thousands recover from cancer and other life-threatening ailments with food alone. My beloved Poodle was among them too. It has always grieved me to hear ignorant comments about Macrobiotics. Thank you for the great integrity and radicalism you have shown in interviwing this wonderful “Macro.” You rock!

Beautiful hearing such an inspirational story but I keep wondering did spirituality play a part in his journey. God is in it all with his journey. This is not a criticism. just a thought. May God bless him and all of America. May we all be blessed and healthy. Thank you, Chris for presenting these stories to us.

My husband had a very similar story. Diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, with multiple nets in surrounding organs. Simultaneously, I had just read the China study, asked if he wanted to try WFPB. He said yes and we completely switched over and were very hard core about it.
Meanwhile, Did radiation to shrink tumor to prepare for ~5 mos. Couldn’t get the surgery at that time due to a detached retina which prevented him from laying down. DC’d radiation, then 4 mos later was scheduled for surgery. When they went in, the tumor was now a fibrous mass, all Mets were gone. I attribute it to diet.
He was 78 at that time. He had previously been a runner, marathoner, tri athlete, and mountain climber, so he had the base plus some long lived relatives.
Unfortunately when they went in a found nothing, they gave him a stony bag anyway. when went back into remove it, 5 mos later, he had a massive stroke. He recovered from that well, but ultimately broke his hip due to the first treatment. Lived an additional 7 years, but ultimately died decades se he couldn’t get into local hospital as was full of antivaxxers and vaccine d deniers who got sick. I attribute his long life to the change of diet.
