Continue ReadingSo I'm often asked "Where do you buy your food?" Well when I first started this journey in January 2004, organic food was pretty scarce in Memphis, TN. Now (thank the Lord on high) it is much easier to find. We shop at various places like Whole Foods aka "Whole Paycheck", Kroger, Fresh Market, and local Farmer's Markets. And Micah does a pretty good job of keeping up with which store carries what, and who has better prices etc. But one of our favorite places is Costco. A couple years ago we discovered that they have a really impressive selection of organic food and health food. So I thought it would be fun and helpful to take pictures of the super healthy food we buy at Costco on a regular basis.

Continue ReadingWell it's New Years Day and I'm sitting on the couch in my jammies drinking my morning concoction (16 oz of ozonated water with 4 grams of vitamin c and green tea extract) and reflecting on what a terrific year 2012 was. Nine years ago today I was in the hospital recovering from colon cancer surgery. And the year that followed (2004) was the toughest year of my life physically and emotionally. That was when I radically changed my diet and lifestyle and took my health into my own hands....

Continue ReadingMy name is Linda, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in June of 2010 at age 47. I had the surgery and unfortunately I did the chemo. A few months into the chemo I started reading books and changed a lot of things. I finished all but one treatment - I did stop early though because of the things I had learned while reading and researching. I changed my diet to completely vegan, with juicing, I started doing the flax oil and cottage cheese (Budwig Protocol), drinking Essiac Tea, and began seeing a naturopathic doctor who also has medical doctors at his clinic who deal with cancer, and changed my supplements to the best I could buy. But the thing that I think saved my life was having all of my root canals removed...

Continue ReadingSo is it possible to have an unhealthy obsession with healthy eating? Sounds a bit ridiculous right? We live in a toxic world. We're bombarded with toxins every day from external sources and in the processed junk food we eat. This is why so many of us are sick. Simply put, food provides is the fuel for every cell in our bodies and the best fuel comes from clean organic whole food sources. So yes, healthy eating is extremely important, heck that's what this blog is all about! But it is possible to become so obsessive over your health to a degree that you actually become unhealthy.
Continue ReadingI never gave much thought to the health effects of living in a modernized society until I was diagnosed with cancer. That's when I began to take a second look at everything. Cancer has increased dramatically in our modern industrial age. So every aspect of our modern age became suspect, including electricity. When I started researching the effects that our modern electrically-powered world can have on our health, I discovered electropollution.
Continue ReadingI get a lot of emails and a lot of questions. So I decided to start a FAQ / Q&A category where I can answer emails and post them on the site for the whole world to read. I've decided to call it FAQ&A. Perfect right? Any email sent to me through the site might be a candidate, but not every email will be answered this way. I've been thinking about doing this for awhile, and the following email pushed me over the top: "Hi Chris, I just watched Food Matters last night. What are your thoughts/overall views on: - the Gerson Therapy. - high-dose vitamin therapy (to prevent and treat cancer), if viewed positively, aren't vitamins contained in chemical-laden capsules with harmful preservatives for the average budget-conscious consumer? - raw food diet - being prescribed medication by doctors I'm always disturbed by the suspicion that big business, government, and some doctors are profiting off our our illnesses and deaths. Sad and scary. Thanks in advance for your time." -Jenn
Continue ReadingYou've probably heard that a diet high in sodium is unhealthy because it is a risk factor for Cardiovascular and Kidney Disease. Processed foods have very high levels of salt, and a diet high in salt actually leads to salt dependence by your body. This is why you crave salty foods; just like a smoker craves the nicotine in a cigarette.
Continue ReadingAlthough most folks think of corn as a vegetable, it's actually a high starch grain. And you may be surprised to know that it has very little health benefit compared to other produce, which is why we don't really eat much of it anymore in our house. King Corn is a independent documentary film about the corn industry in America. Here's are some notes from the film mixed in with my research and comments:
